BARQAAB has successfully delivered major consultancy assignments independently and as a joint venture partner across the water and power sectors.

In the water sector, BARQAAB independently planned, designed and supervised construction of the Rainee Canal Project, including its 10,000-cusecs headwork at Guddu Barrage, 111 km of main and branch canals, 133 km of distributaries and minors, and 394 structures of various types. Other landmark assignments include the Muzaffargarh Canal Rehabilitation and Lining Project as lead firm, the Mangla Dam Raising Project, and the New Khanki Barrage Project as a major joint venture partner. BARQAAB also participated as a major joint venture partner in the detailed design of the Diamer Basha Dam Project and independently completed the feasibility study for the Mangla–Marala Link Canal, along with feasibility studies for numerous dams across Pakistan.

In the power sector, BARQAAB has extensive experience in the planning, design, system studies, design review, construction supervision, testing and commissioning of 500 kV, 220 kV and 132 kV grid stations and transmission lines. The company has completed consultancy assignments for 8 projects involving 500 kV AIS/GIS substations, 13 projects involving 220 kV AIS/GIS substations, and 18 projects involving 132 kV AIS/GIS substations. Its transmission-line experience includes approximately 876 km of ±660 kV HVDC lines, 418 km of 500 kV lines, 888 km of 220 kV lines and 307 km of 132 kV lines.

BARQAAB was involved in Pakistan’s first ±660 kV HVDC Transmission Line Project—the 4,000 MW Matiari–Lahore HVDC Transmission Project—covering system studies, design review, construction supervision, quality assurance and associated engineering services for approximately 876 km of transmission line, together with converter-station and earthing-station facilities at Matiari and Lahore. BARQAAB also played a pioneering role in Pakistan’s 500 kV GIS technology as the consultant for the first 500 kV GIS Grid Station under the NTDC–KESC 500/220 kV Interconnection Project. This experience demonstrates BARQAAB’s strong indigenous expertise and leadership in high-voltage grid-station and transmission-line engineering.
